Three weeks passed from when we performed a home inspection and a “termite” inspection on a lovely tri-level home in West Chester. Our bug guy returned this week to deal with a pest issue (mice) that was identified during the inspection and noted in the report.
Arriving at the home he picked up a newspaper that had been tossed in the yard less than a week before. Picking it up he was surprised to find the underside covered in termites that had started their work of breaking it down. If you look carefully you will see that here are small termites in the center of the photo.
Termites are completely blind and live underground, they come up looking for any cellulose product to eat. It can be vegetation, the paper finish on drywall or the wood framing of your home. Termites are not choosy, they find it they eat it. Without termites all the trees that fall would probably remain intact for centuries.
If you had your home inspected for termites a couple of years ago you may want to consider getting it inspected again and even better annually. Don’t be surprised to find that termites have moved in and are destroying your home right now, look how quickly they got into the newspaper!
