If you are purchasing a home, ask if there is a termite service contract that you can take over or continue. The contract should be transferable to the new purchaser when you sell. These contracts with the extermination company provide an annual inspection for termites or other wood destroying insects.
Contracts are renewable annually for a flat fee. If an annual inspection reveals termite activity, the pest control company will provide any treatments necessary to stop the infestation at no additional charge.
The average cost of treating a small home for termites in our area is approximately $750, so do not let a contract lapse.
NOTE: Most termite contracts only pay for the application of chemicals needed to stop the infestation and do not pay for repairing any damage caused by the termites to the structure.
