- Valley
- The internal angle formed by the intersection of two sloping roof planes.
- Vapor Barrier
- Plastic sheeting used to stop the passage of moisture.
- Vent
- Any outlet for air that protrudes through the roof deck such as a pipe or stack. Any device installed on the roof, gable or suffer for the purpose of ventilating the underside of the roof deck.
- Vent Sleeve
- Pre-formed flange placed over a vent pipe to seal the roof around the vent pipe opening. Also called a collar.
- Voltage
- Most electrical accessories in the home use 110 volts. Voltage is like horsepower, it is electricity’s strength. Large appliances (such as stoves, electric clothes dryers, central air conditioners and hot tubs) use the larger 220 volts.
- Wall Plate
- Also called top or bottom plates. The horizontal member attached either end of a stud.
- Water Table
- The below ground level at which water is normally found.
- Weather Head
- The steel pole mounted on the home to which the incoming overhead electrical supply is attached.
- Windowsill
- The structure projecting out from the siding beneath a window.
- Woven Valley
- Method of valley construction in which shingles from both sides of the valley extend across the valley under woven together by overlapping alternate courses as they are applied. The valley flashing is not exposed.
- X-ray Fluorescence Machine (XRF)
- Portable handheld scanner used to detect the presence of lead based paint in buildings, using x-ray technology.

We first used Buyers Inspection Service to inspect a home we were interested in buying 5 years ago. David Roche was our inspector and he was WONDERFUL! He was very thorough and walked me through the home to explain everything he inspected and point out areas of concern. This meant so much to me because my husband was deployed at the time and I was doing all of the buying processes by myself. He was very friendly and personable and made sure I understood everything he was talking about. Unfortunately we backed out of that house because the owners were unwilling to fix the major problems that the house had. When we found another home of interest, we called Buyer's Inspection Service again because we were very pleased with their services the first time around. I specifically requested David because he was wonderful and I knew he would do a great job with the inspection and explaining things to me. Ryan did a fantastic job on our inspection, guided us away from an unnecessary test with confidence that the material in the house didn't contain asbestos, but also saved us from a project house that we didn't realize was going to be a project house. This place is amazing!! We decided to pick our own inspection service instead of going with the recommended service from our realtor and boy oh boy are we happy! From the very beginning they were doing everything they could to help save me money and give me a quality inspection. They even called once they started the inspection to tell us of a big problem, and said if this was a deal breaker they'd stop the inspection and we could get most of our money back. Their work is beyond thorough, and for once during the home buying experience it didn't feel like someone was trying to scam me, trick me, or coerce me. Buyer's Inspection Service truly feels like one of the last companies that isn't just out to squeeze you for every last dollar to your name. If you live in Dayton, don't go to anyone else! I highly recommend Buyers Inspection Services. I’m building and began to have many concerns with my builder after reading reviews and was able to inform the inspector prior to the pre-dry meeting my concerns and what are the common trends I was reading and he was able to calm my nerves and educate me post inspection.
