- Valley
- The internal angle formed by the intersection of two sloping roof planes.
- Vapor Barrier
- Plastic sheeting used to stop the passage of moisture.
- Vent
- Any outlet for air that protrudes through the roof deck such as a pipe or stack. Any device installed on the roof, gable or suffer for the purpose of ventilating the underside of the roof deck.
- Vent Sleeve
- Pre-formed flange placed over a vent pipe to seal the roof around the vent pipe opening. Also called a collar.
- Voltage
- Most electrical accessories in the home use 110 volts. Voltage is like horsepower, it is electricity’s strength. Large appliances (such as stoves, electric clothes dryers, central air conditioners and hot tubs) use the larger 220 volts.
- Wall Plate
- Also called top or bottom plates. The horizontal member attached either end of a stud.

- The steel pole mounted on the home to which the incoming overhead electrical supply is attached.
- Windowsill
- The structure projecting out from the siding beneath a window.
- Woven Valley
- Method of valley construction in which shingles from both sides of the valley extend across the valley under woven together by overlapping alternate courses as they are applied. The valley flashing is not exposed.

- Portable handheld scanner used to detect the presence of lead based paint in buildings, using x-ray technology.
