Fire / Smoke alarms, test manually
- Carbon monoxide alarms, test manually.
- Fire extinguishers:
- Check pressure gauge should indicate, “charged” or be green.
- Lock pin should be intact and firmly in place.
- Check discharge nozzle, should be free of obstruction.
- Clean extinguisher, check for dents or corrosion.
- Alarm system, run tests required to maintain readiness.
- Chimney, during heating season check fireplace chimney for creosote buildup. Clean with chimney brushes or scrapers to remove the creosote.
- Log Stove, during heating season, pipe between stove and chimney should be cleaned if creosote build-up is observed.
- Check stovepipe for corrosion and holes, replace if necessary.
Baseboard radiators or heaters should be vacuumed.
- Bathrooms, check for leaks around the toilet, under the washbasin, and dripping faucets.
- Inspect the caulk around the bathtub or shower tray.
- Kitchens, look for leaks under the sink. Check for dripping faucets.
- Vent Hood, wash grease filter in hot soapy water, (or bring to the car wash & use the engine clean setting)
- Water softener; add salt (use only recommended type).
- Water filter systems, change filters.
- Exterior lights replace any blown bulbs.
