You must give 48 hours notice. OUPS will send a technician out, free of charge to mark the location of any underground utilities (gas lines, and electric or phone wiring) in the area you intend to work. You will need to give them at least 24 hours notice.
If you do not use this service, and damage a utility line in the course of the work you are undertaking, you will be held liable for the damage to, and the cost of repairing the damaged utilities.
If you use this free service and damage a utility, you will not be charged for the cost of repairing the damaged service.
NOTE: In many cases phone lines are only 6″ deep, gas and electrical cables are only 18″ deep.
